Across the Rock - Running Newfoundland

In 2025 me and my good friend Fin Hampton will set out to redefine how running documentaries are made. From May 22 to June 4 Fin will run across Newfoundland, Canada, covering two marathons a day for 10 days.

 

It’s a huge physical challenge, but also a journey through the people, places and culture that make this part of the world so unique. 

 

I’ve seen him run 22 marathons in 22 days, cover 110 miles in 24 hours and complete over 100 marathons. This is his return to something big — a chance to dig deep again. The project is backed by Newfoundland Diagnostics, and we’re looking for a small group of brands to join us and be part of the story.

Who are we?

Pete is a 31 year old photographer and filmmaker based in London, UK that specialises in lifestyle and sports work. Over the last couple of years he's had the opportunity to shoot trail running all over the world for brands such as New Balance, Oakley, Ronhill & SunGod and working with the likes of Courtney Dauwater and Tom Evans.

Fin is a 28 year old ultra runner and running coach based in Cornwall. For Fin, running started as a way to push his limits and discover what he was made of. Now, it’s a way for him to help others be the best runners they can be.

Danny is a 33 year old film maker/editor who runs Nomad Media Collective, a production company that specialises in sport and travel content. He has 14 years experience working with some of the biggest brands globally and will be joining to help shoot/edit.​

The Details

The route will take Fin from Lobster Cove in the west to St. John’s in the east, crossing the full width of Newfoundland. The total distance is approximately 700km, with the majority of the journey on road, but also including scenic detours onto trail sections and rural backroads, offering a more immersive and diverse view of the island’s landscape. 

Along the way, we’ll be taking time to meet and speak with the people who live across the island—fishermen, shopkeepers, local runners, capturing their stories, perspectives, and relationship with the land. Newfoundland is a place full of history and friendly locals and we want this project to reflect that.

The Why

Fin and I met over ten years ago working at HSBC. We were two people sitting at desks, daydreaming of something more—Fin chasing the limits of what his body could do through running, and me pursuing a life behind the camera, telling real stories and exploring the world.

Since then, we’ve both committed to those paths. Fin has now run over 100 marathons, and I’ve built a career as a filmmaker and photographer, capturing human stories in wild places. But somewhere along the way, we both discovered that achievement alone doesn’t always deliver the feeling you expect. When Fin crossed the finish line of his 100th marathon, the celebration was fleeting. What stayed with him wasn’t the number, but the people, the places, and the miles between the milestones.

This journey across Newfoundland is a reflection of that lesson. It’s not about setting records or racing to the finish. It’s about slowing down within the movement, being present each day, and telling a story that’s rich with connection, humour, challenge, and meaning.

 

 

 

We’re creating a variety of multi format content that will bring this journey to life in a way that’s raw, human, and visually stunning.

  • 4-Part YouTube Documentary Series
    A high-quality, cinematic series capturing the full arc of the challenge- from our early mornings on the road to the highs, lows, unexpected moments, and the people we meet. These episodes will go beyond running to explore friendship, place, and the deeper “why” behind it all. They will be themed, focusing on the locals, the motivation for the trip in being present, the mental side of it and of course all the beautiful places Newfoundland has to offer.

  • Teaser Trailer and training content - set to start going out 10 days before the trip.
    A short, emotive teaser released ahead of the trip to build excitement and drive anticipation across platforms.

  • Daily Content Output
    We’ll be sharing fast-turnaround, real-time content every day of the challenge across Instagram and Youtube. This will include behind-the-scenes moments, visual diary entries, scenic highlights, and personal reflections from the road, offering audiences an unfiltered look at what it really takes to run across Newfoundland.

I’ll be shooting all of the photography and video content, while Danny, our editor, will be working daily from the RV to cut, grade, and publish content for daily updates.

We're looking for support with kit that we'll be using every day on this journey mainly running kit, hydration, nutrition. We won't be looking for 100's of sponsors as the runs expenses are covered, just the essentials.

We'd also be looking for financial support and could create a content package based on this if you are interested. 

This gear won’t just be featured, it’ll be lived in. Fin will be running 80km a day through wild terrain and unpredictable weather, and what we use will become part of the story. The shoes that carry him, the food that fuels him, the clothing that keeps him dry — it’s all going to be seen and tested in real time.

We’ll be producing daily content from the road, showing exactly how this kit holds up and why it matters. For anyone planning their own big challenge, this becomes more than just a story. It’s useful, honest insight into what works when it counts
